We asked our trainees about Stockton SCITT
This is what they said…
“I chose Stockton SCITT because I wanted as much experience in a school as possible.”
I love training to teach Maths with Stockton SCITT. I chose Stockton SCITT because I wanted as much experience in a school as possible. I was encouraged to teach as soon as I felt ready, team teaching within a couple of weeks of being at a school. I have found that progressively increasing teaching hours has been a great way to build confidence and get to grips with the workload without feeling too stressed. I have had amazing support in both placement schools; there is always someone to answer any questions or give advice. Working with a variety of teachers has allowed me to observe many teaching methods that I have adapted to suit my own teaching style. I have gained a wealth of experience from different settings, from teaching A level to dealing with challenging behaviour to getting involved in after school activities. Central training has provided me with a wide variety of different experiences and valuable knowledge that I can transfer to my teaching practice. The training provided is always suited to our needs and as trainees we are always encouraged to identify any extra training sessions that we feel we may need. Central training is also a great time to socialise with other people on the course and share our own experiences.
“My decision to train to teach with Stockton SCITT programme was one of the best decisions I have ever made.”
My decision to train to teach with Stockton SCITT programme was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It has been fascinating, rewarding and every day has been a challenge. I was concerned about going back into training at the age of 31 but I was not the oldest on the course! There were a variety of people, all with individual talents. The workload has been intense but the rewards of teaching far outweigh this. I now go to work each day with a smile on my face and look forward to teaching and being part of a team.
The SCITT training programme completely prepared me for my NQT year. Throughout my three placements, I experienced a wealth of different situations and gained vast teaching experience. I was given the opportunity to work with and learn from some fantastic practitioners. The SCITT programme was structured in such a way that I would learn the theory and then have the opportunity to put it into practise. The training also gave me experiences, which allowed me to feel fully prepared for interviews for a teaching position. The support structure was fantastic. I was very clear on the line of support available to me and I felt I could draw on it where necessary. I had supportive tutors who were always happy to help, the staff within the partnership were always available to answer any questions and I built some great relationships with the team which I’m sure I will continue to draw upon in my career.
Follow your dreams and ambitions. You will receive all of the help and support you need and if you give it 100% you will reap the rewards. My only regret is not completing my training earlier!
“The programme gave me the opportunity to gain confidence and knowledge in teaching young children.”
After studying for 3 years at Teesside University on an Early Childhood Studies degree I began early years teacher training through the Stockton-on-Tees SCITT programme. The programme gave me the opportunity to gain confidence and knowledge in teaching young children. Through carefully planned training courses and lots of time spent in school, I gained the knowledge needed to become a primary teacher. The programme is very well organised by professionals who really know what goes on in schools today. The schools I spent my placements at were very welcoming and supportive. I cannot recommend this course enough as a practical way of getting into teaching. Spending a lot of hands on, practical time in school was really beneficial in gaining knowledge and experience. I am now an NQT teaching year 1!
